I met a sweet Georgia peach
At a debutant spring ball
It only took one look
Before my heart began to fall
I knew I was in trouble
When she took me by the hand
And headed toward the dance floor
To get down with the band

I said please don’t be put out with me
When you hear my tragic news
But I swear I’ve never worn a single pair
Of DANCIN’ SHOES

She looked at me and smiled
Like she didn’t mind a bit
My knees felt so weak
From all the terror that I hid
She knew what she was doing
When she said these words to me
By the time the band quits playin’
Who knows where this will lead

The way she spoke to me was more than I could bear
I started smokin’ that dance floor in my formal wear
I was shakin’ tail feathers like there’s nothin’ to lose
‘Cause my baby found me a new pair of DANCIN’ SHOES

The bass and the drums played a smooth country groove
And that electric guitar player played with Nashville cool
When the band took a break she leaned closer to say
After this dance could we go swimmin’ at the lake
Oh yeah
