JESUS ON THE AIR

Came home late from work
Was trying to unwind
Punched on the remote
Stretched out to recline
Station I was watching
Had Oprah on the air
Two ladies gave up details
Of personal affairs
With testing a diet where
They got weighed on camera
In front of television viewers
Coast to coast across America
Eight weeks later their personal weight
Was no longer part of the public domain
One of ‘em was asked how she felt about that
Thank you (beep) she said as a matter of fact
They wouldn’t let her say JESUS ON THE AIR
They wouldn’t let her say JESUS ON THE AIR
Politically correct and so typically unfair
They wouldn’t let her say JESUS ON THE AIR
Well I stared in disbelief
When I heard that little beep
And considered what’s uncensored
On the networks every week
Those seven dirty words
They ain’t never supposed to say
I’ve heard ‘em all on prime time
As they look the other way
Then they try to shelter me
From what’s good and pure and right
I can see empirically
They’ve finally lost their minds
CHORUS: repeat
There used to be a day
When one could even say
Television had a sense
Of responsibility
Now there’s no such luck
They just try to make a buck
As they shamelessly sell out
Our society
CHORUS: repeat
(Instrumental bridge)
CHORUS: repeat
